Inclement Weather Policy

Hello parents!!! Just wanted to let you all aware of a change we have made. We changed our inclement weather policy. We will no longer follow Ashland Independent School District. We are sorry for any and all inconviences that us being closed has caused. We will be open unless the state declares a state of emergency and closes the highways. We are setting up a school voicemail that will state rather or not we will be open, we will post it on this site, and it will also be posted on WSAZ. Thank you and again we sincerely apologize for any inconvience we have caused you. This policy will be in effect starting January 8th, 2010. Thank you and God bless!!!!!

Update

Hello!! This is just an update to some of the things going on here at God's Gifts. We have changed the preschool to just an all day class. Because we still have a low enrollment your child can come in at anytime. Daycare rate for 6wks-3years of age is 100/wk. Children three years old and up are in the preschool classroom. The rate for this classroom is 125/wk since I have a degree and we do more educational interaction. We are still open for enrollment in all ages. Our classrooms are beginning to fill up so make sure you have your spot!

Next week we are having a Fall Festival Party on Thursday @ 11. The children will be allowed to dress up in costumes and parade around the gym and will even have the opportunity to go to stations with fun activities. Door prizes have been donatedand prizes will be won so parents are encouraged to come and participate.

Again. If you need more information please call Linda Brown @ 606-739-0554. Thank you and God Bless!!!!

Just a starter

Hello and welcome to God's Gifts Preschool and Daycare's blog! We are very excited about what the Lord has in store for us at the center. This is where you can come to check us out, see pictures, and find out what's new with the center.

Our goal is to show the love of Christ in everything that we do and to teach children how to operate in the richness of God's love and goodness. We will give God all the glory, honor, and praise for all the souls that are saved through our center. We want to ensure that each and every child receives the best education that we can provide. It is with God's grace that we have been able to overcome all the obstacles and finally open.

Bishop Steve Mays is the centers Administrator. He is the senior pastor at Catlettsburg Church of God. He has a heart for serving the Lord and instilling God's word into His sheep. God birthed this center in his spirit when he first arrived at the church and he is blessed, to say the least, that God has raised up people to catch his vision. He is very excited about getting children enrolled and serving the tri-state community!

Our Administrative Director is Linda Brown. She is the praise and worship leader at Catlettsburg Church of God. She is a very anointed woman of God that has been raised in the church all of her life. She is devoted to serving the Lord and using her abilities to direct the center with God's direction and anointing. She has put her heart and soul into the making of this center and we are pleased to have her as the Administrative Director!!!

As for me, I'm the preschool teacher and the facility director. I am a member of Catlettsburg Church of God and I love the Lord. When I was at Marshall in 2003 the Lord birthed in my spirit that he wanted me to be a teacher... so I switched my major from business to teaching the very next day. I graduated from Marshall just last year with a Bachelor's of Science for teaching. I spent my first year teaching a Head start classroom that I feel helped me learn the ropes of how a center operates. My heart literally explodes out of my chest every time I teach. I am so blessed to know that I get to teach and serve the Lord all at the same time and it's one amazing gift that God has given to me. I also feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to catch the vision of Pastor Steve.

Our employees are amazing people. They are all Christians that love serving the Lord. They all have a huge heart for Jesus and enjoy serving others. They too have been given the opportunity to catch the vision and enhance this centers operations with the help of Jesus "taking the wheel".

Our facility is top of the line. It is the only daycare in the Catlettsburg vicinity. It is at the foot of the Ceredo-Kenova bridge in the church's Family Life Center. We are open from 7am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. The center is an open door facility which means that anyone is more than welcome to come and tour the center. We would love to be given the opportunity to serve you, your family, or anyone who you know that needs good quality childcare. Thank you and God Bless.

Curriculum and Assessments...what to expect

We will be using the Pinnacle curriculum in all of the classrooms. My preschool classroom will also be using the Project Approach in conjunction with the Pinnacle.

The Pinnacle is a highly respected faith based curriculum that lists all aspects of the classroom which makes it easy to read by all teachers.
It is based on the works of Piaget, Gardner, and Erikson. It includes hands-on, center-based activities that promote the development of emerging skills. I am very thrilled that we will be using this curriculum and I feel that it will set apart our daycare and preschool as being a high quality christian center.

It is quoted..."It is designed to assist teachers with program planning that encourages children to develop their emerging skills in all developmental areas. It offers activities for both group time and the learning areas, and teachers have an abundance of ideas to enrich the learning centers in their classroom. The activities meet learning objectives that help children move toward their potential as they explore the materials and activities in the classroom."

The assessments that we will be using includes: checklists, a portfolio of student work, and anecdotal notes.
